The department offers students the challenge of a dynamically evolving science, whose discoveries and applications affect every area of modern life. The department has a strong research program including laboratories equipped with the latest computing facilities, thereby providing students with a rewarding educational experience. The department participates in many government-funded programs such as 'BK21' a nurturing program for graduate education, 'NURI' a human resource development program recently initiated by Korea's Ministry of Education for the innovation of regional universities, and 'NEXT' a nurturing program for excellent engineers in Information Technology. ¢Ñ http://ce.knu.ac.kr | 82-53-950-5550 (tel) History The department was established in 1974. It merged into the Electronics Division of the Engineering School from 1976 through 1985, after which it became independent again. Currently, the department has 16 faculty members.
Objective/Scope The department aims at educating highly competent computer engineers who will be well qualified either for employment in industry or for advanced study in graduate schools. The department curriculum provides diverse and balanced course in both applied and theoretical computer engineering. With highly motivated faculty members, the department offers a rich learning environment with educational and research labs equipped with advanced computing facilities.
Undergraduate Program The undergraduate programs in Computer Engineering is a challenging one which attracts some of our university's best students. Each year, many of these students win scholarship awards. The undergraduate program consists of three important tracks: Network Systems, Media Engineering, and Information Engineering. The program begins with a thorough background in the fundamentals of computer programming, computer architecture, data structures and file processing. Project oriented courses are offered during the early part of this program to provide students with theory and practice. At more advanced levels, subjects include algorithm design, computer modeling, software engineering, compilers, operating systems, internet and data communication, embedded systems, computer graphics, and multimedia systems. Detailed program and course information can be obtained from the department website.
Graduate Program The department offers two different Graduate Studies programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. There are currently approximately 90 students enrolled in the graduate programs in our department. Our graduate program is supported by a government-funded program called BK21. By the program, the department trains more professionals in the IT field.
Accreditation The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education in of Korea (ABEEK).
